5 B.S. Facts About Facials From An Amarillo Esthetician

Amarillo esthetician lays it all out for you on facials and skincare in Amarillo TX

When it comes to skincare and professional aesthetics such as facials, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, and similar services, there can be a lot of myths and misunderstandings. Are these services pampering? Are they actually needed and necessary? With today’s blog, we wanted to address some comments or misunderstandings we hear from time to time in our spa in Amarillo, TX and we will try to make sense out of the information in a way that is easily understood and relatable.

1. A more expensive service means it’s a better service.

Some lines of skincare certainly cost more. There is no doubt about this fact. However, the difference in the cost is negligible. The most important thing to keep in mind is that some places have a higher pricing scheme because they have a higher overhead to pay each month. Some places are trying to pay for a lobby that looks a little bit like a palace. Do you really think, however, that their estheticians are any more skilled than the ones down the street with a more modest lobby and more reasonable pricing? Of course, they’re not.

2. A newer service is always a better service.

Not so fast. Sometimes it is but, many times, it is the tested, traditional treatments that are the most effective. The “tried-and-true’s” if you will. Find what works for you and find what you love and makes you feel good. Then stick with it. Chasing the newest technology gets very expensive and, honestly, exhausting.

3.  That products don’t lie.

“9 out of 10 doctors recommend ___________ skincare products.” This usually is not true at all. Over-the-counter products like skincare lines do not have to go through the FDA approval process. You will commonly see all kinds of skincare and cosmetic claims as long as the claims a product makes aren’t so out of this world to provoke false advertising claims.

4. Soap is the best cleanser.

Soap is so good at cleaning that, in fact, soap commonly takes off more than it should. We’re referring to a protective layer called the hydrophile-lilophile barrier. Removing this layer causes your skin to become dry causing peeling and other issues. Make sure you get the proper recommendations from your cosmetologist/aesthetician for your skincare needs.

5. Facials don’t actually do much good or make any real difference.

A professional facial cleanses your skin, especially the part that everyone sees and unfortunately judges you by, in a manner that simply cannot be accomplished at home. You will likely NEVER have the products at your home that will actually achieve the professional effect a visit to the esthetician will provide. Unless you are truly wealthy and have the proper education, leave it to the professionals and get taken care of the right way. Besides cleansing, a visit to your local esthetician is RELAXING. What a way to spoil yourself while truly taking care of yourself. Wouldn’t you agree that a reduction in stress and a little pampering lessens skin issues? At our spa in Amarillo, we like to think there is some pampering to be had with some seriously professional skincare.
