Chiropractor In Amarillo Assistant Discusses Chiropractic Care in Kids

Amarillo chiropractor assistant discusses

So many times we question how safe and effective chiropractic care is in our little ones. As a mother of four, and a chiropractic assistant for the past 6 years, I have plenty of first-hand experience seeing the benefits chiropractic care has with children.

Sometimes we think of spinal manipulation as painful and scary. I can’t tell you the number of myths and horror stories we hear from our adult patients every day.

So, the big question….is it safe?

There have been several large-scale research studies verifying the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for kids. The amount of force used to adjust an infant is comparable to the amount of force you use to test a ripe tomato at the grocery store. Those of you with kids know that they are certainly able to withstand a lot more pressure than that!

So how often is a chiropractic adjustment necessary? I have two very active wrestlers. And that means constant aches and muscle soreness. A good rule of thumb is to think of chiropractic as maintenance, like a good dental cleaning. Chiropractic can be used as preventative care rather than waiting for there to be a problem, complaint or symptom.

Pain usually is the last symptom to show up when there is an underlying problem. As a parent, you know it can sometimes be difficult to have your kids communicate discomfort so think of it this way- the more active your child is, the easier it is to sprain, strain, and fatigue their muscles. It’s a great idea to teach them at a young age to care for their bodies. Perhaps even more important is to help them recognize when something isn’t right.

Having a monthly wellness adjustment is the most important step in keeping your child’s overall wellness maintained. When there is an active issue, getting regular adjustments to get on top of the problem is the recommended treatment plan. However, if you have an active child who doesn’t have any injuries or complaints, getting a monthly adjustment could help ward off injuries that your child’s activities may put them at risk for.
