Chiropractor In Amarillo Talks About Getting A MASTER Massage
What are the differences between massage and therapists?
There are lots of modalities of massage, over 100 different types of massage to be exact. Massages can range from relaxation to therapeutic. Different Massage techniques are designed to achieve different goals. Some are the way they are simply because or their origins.
Therapists as well are not all the same and that has a lot to do with how they were taught in school, how knowledgeable they are in the human body, and years of experience and different modalities they are certified in. Not to mention any further education they receive after they get initially licensed.
It is a very misunderstood profession. Lots of people have the misconception that massages and therapists are all the same. They think that they all do the same things essentially. This is not true at all.
Even though they are all therapeutic in a way, let’s start with the basics of massage. Swedish massage is what most people are used to and has to do with the light strokes, kneading, and long fluid strokes on the body. This modality is often referred to as the “aaahh massage” and is used for calming the body and relaxation (known more at spas). There are lots of massages that fall into the “relaxation” category. When we start looking at more therapeutic massages, we begin talking about styles like deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release etc., These types of massages are designed to address, and work, on soft tissue and muscular disorders.
Therapists are also commonly misunderstood but all fall in different categories as well. Trust me, not all massage therapists are created equally. It will depend on where the therapist went to school, how the therapist was trained, and how much further they have gone in the profession once obtaining licensure as to how your message is likely to go. There are therapists that have gone to school for more spiritual, healing, and energy work such as Reiki. At the same time, there are therapists that are more specialized in spa relaxation, hot stone, and cosmetic style of massage. Then there are therapists that are more specifically trained in therapeutic forms of massage, lymphatic drainage, cranial-sacral, orthopedic, myofascial release, etc..
As you can see, there are lots of different types of massages, therapies, and therapists. What kind of massage and what kind of therapist you get is truly up to the client. Patients tend to know what their issues are and what they would like in regards their goals for the session and beyond. Whether it is to be more relaxed or whether they want a more therapeutic style to address pain or other issues they might be having.
If you are confused due to there being a lot of different things offered out there in the forms of massage, our office would be more than happy to answer any questions that you might have. We have all kinds of therapists here at Creek Stone in Amarillo and will be glad to get you with a therapist that will suit your needs.
Remember our motto: “What can we do to make you feel better today?”
